A Competitive, but Friendly, Cross Country Meet

A group of runners, wearing matching blue and black uniforms, are participating in a race on a paved road surrounded by trees and buildings.

Algonquin Middle School and Iroquois Community School recently engaged in a competitive cross country meet.

Mrs. Miranda Fay, one of the cross country coaches, said all participants demonstrated remarkable perseverance and sportsmanship as they navigated the course around the ICS building.

The course primarily followed a sidewalk route, which is typically favored by the athletes.

The meet featured three sets of races organized by grade level: 8th grade, 7th grade and 6th grade.

While runners competed according to their respective grade levels, their race was scored only against others of the same gender.

Overall, Algonquin Middle School excelled, securing victories in the majority of races.

Both teams faced each other again at the Maine West Invitational at the end of September and again at the final conference meet in early October.
