Algonquin Middle School band students participated in the annual D62/Maine West Band Festival at Maine West High School.

The morning started with Maine West High School's Band Director, Mr. Bernie Gerstmayr, organizing the students by instrument.

As the students practiced their songs Mr. Gerstmayr would offer advice on how they could further improve on them.

After practicing together, the students broke up into four different groups according to the instrument and met with a clinician.

There were clinicians for the trumpet section, the saxophone section, the flute section and the percussionists.

The students played their songs for the experts and received feedback on how to make various improvements and enhance their sounds.

The percussion clinician showed the students different ways to play the drums with drum pads and how to create different sounds from a tambourine and a triangle based on placement and movement.

The students were well-prepared for their performance for family and friends that evening!
