Orchestra Collaboration Showcases the Musical Talents of AMS!

Algonquin Middle School orchestra students had an amazing time participating in the D62/Maine West Orchestra Festival, an annual collaboration among all three District 62 middle schools and Maine West High School.

The Algonquin students began their morning tuning their instruments with the help of their orchestra teacher, Ms. Kristin Vaziri.

Maine West High School Orchestra Teacher, Ms. Daniella Valdez, was excited to welcome the students to the Maine West auditorium.

Ms. Valdez asked her students to play the musical piece they would be working on that day before the younger musicians joined in.

The three middle schools then split up into different groups and participated in various workshops to strengthen their musical skills.

Each of the schools had an opportunity to play their piece for Mr. Matthew Sheppard, Music Director of the University Chamber Orchestra at the University of Chicago.

Mr. Sheppard had the students play their piece with Ms. Vaziri and then worked with them to improve different sections of it.

During the workshop the students were encouraged to talk to one other about their performance, providing each other with constructive feedback.

Mr. Sheppard helped the students improve their musicianship, preparing them for their performance that evening for their family and friends!
