Panther Prep Camp!

Two young students, a boy and a girl, are intently focused on a document or worksheet in front of them, with a classroom setting visible in the background.

Incoming Algonquin Middle School sixth graders had an opportunity to meet teachers and make new friends at the school's annual Panther Prep camp.

The students began their morning in the cafeteria, reconnecting with classmates they hadn't seen all summer and meeting new ones as well.

There were multiple activities for the students to participate in throughout the morning.

One of the activities was to familiarize themselves with their class schedule and navigate through the Algonquin Middle School hallways using a map of the school.

Another exercise had the students writing down one thing they were looking forward to about middle school and also one thing they might be a little nervous about. They then shared their responses with others in a small group.

Another popular activity that morning was learning how to open their combination locks.

They were challenged with opening up their locks ten times in ten minutes.

Students also had fun participating in Art and STEM class drawing exercises.

In Art class they had to draw a refrigerator and then an animal within the five minutes they were there.

In STEM class the students had to draw an animal or a bug in three minutes.

The students also had an opportunity for some team building activities. They participated in Kagan cooperative learning structures, which helped them get to know each other better.

The incoming 6th grade students had a great morning and are looking forward to the new school year!
