Algonquin Middle School offers various clubs for students to participate in throughout the school year.

AMS Book and Movie Club

We will meet twice per month to read and discuss a variety of books: some chosen by the teacher, and some chosen by the students. We also pair them with movies when possible. Students can read as many or as few of the books as they wish. All students welcome.

Scrabble Club

Letter board game with multiple strategies: Vocabulary, spelling, anagramming, and counting.  In 2004, SCRABBLE was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame!

Newspaper Club

Extra, Extra!  Read all about it!  Do you like to write?  Do you like to find out what’s happening in our school?  Do you like to take pictures?  We need you for our Newspaper Club!  Consider joining our group as a reporter and be a part of a cool club!

Students will have an opportunity to use a variety of materials and paint and draw with friends. All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are welcome.

Yearbook

Yearbook Club meets at various times throughout the year during recess or after school(schedule will be provided at the first meeting). Students help pick out the yearbook cover, take photos during the school day/after school events, help advertise for yearbook sales, and assist with page layouts.

You Be The Chemist Students will practice and grow in the area of chemistry. They will compete one evening in early spring at Oakton Community College. Based on their performance there is a possibility for further competitions.

Chess Club

We play/learn chess.   We learn and try new and different variations of chess.  Some members are new to the game and are just learning it.  Others play the game of chess and its variations as well as some other strategy games.  We definitely have fun!

Club Zen

Students will be provided with a relaxing environment to complete mindful activities of their choice. There will be flexible seating, calm lighting, and soft music playing in the background. Activities will include puzzles, coloring, drawing, journaling, yoga, reading, DIY stress relievers (stress balls, slime, heating pads, etc.)

Flight Club

Flying is one of the greatest innovations of mankind.  If you’re interested in anything related to flying, this is for you!  Come and explore what makes flight possible.  Participate in different activities related to a variety of flying objects, and learn about some of the many applications of flight in our daily lives.

Mariachi Club

Students will collectively learn to play various Mariachi tunes - no musical instrument experience needed! Students can strengthen Spanish-speaking skills through song, learn to collaborate through musical experience, strengthen or develop musical skill, contribute ideas to develop the club further, and celebrate the music of Mariachi culture!

Flag Football

Students will develop their football skills while competing with one another in flag football games.  This club is open to all grades and will take place during the early fall.

Cooking Club

Starting in September, students will have the opportunity to test out their cooking skills and taste test different cuisine. Students will learn kitchen safety, prep, and the use of kitchen equipment. There is a limited amount of seats available, so please check the daily announcements for sign-up directions.

Indoor Soccer Club All grades. Students will be playing 5 on 5 soccer games in the gym. At the same time we will be reviewing the rules of soccer and good sportsmanship.

Drone Soccer

All grades. Students will be playing 5 on 5 drone soccer. Students will work as teams and learn to fly and maintain the drones. There will be interscholastic competition with Chippewa and Iroquois.

TCG Club All grades. Students can come play or trade their playing cards with their peers. TCG means trading card game, so this includes card games such as Pokemon, YuGiOh, Magic the Gathering, Disney Lorcana, Dragon Ball, and more!

Students will learn basic sewing techniques, and complete a variety of fun sewing projects of their choice. I’m also hoping to introduce students to the fashion teacher from Maine West to discuss their program.

Volleyball Skillz

Open for ALL grades to learn and develop their volleyball skills before the school season starts. We will be working on passing, serving, basic rules, learning positions, court communication, and teamwork.
